The Citizens Jury Project, housed at the Fund for Modern Courts, is seeking interns to work on jury reform in New York. The project's OmbudService responds to jurors' ideas and concerns and assesses the conditions of New York courts through ongoing data collection and analysis.
Interns staff the following Ombudservice Booths located in the five boroughs of New York City:
» 60, 100 & 111 Centre Street Courthouses (Manhattan)
» 360 Adams Courthouse (Brooklyn)
» 89-17 Sutphin Boulevard Courthouse (Jamaica, Queens)
» 120-55 Queens Boulevard Courthouse (Kew Gardens, Queens)
» 851 Grand Concourse (Bronx)
» 126 Stuyvesant Place (Staten Island)
Interns deal firsthand with the issues affecting jurors. In addition to working in the courts, interns have the opportunity to conduct legal and policy research, and visit a variety of courts and court-affiliated organizations.
In the summer of each year, CJP interns also offer youth the Youth Mock Trial Program (YMT). This program, which was designed and is taught by CJP interns and Modern Courts staff, is offered in collaboration with the Harlem Children's Zone (www.hcz.org).
